With few exceptions, life in Yelapa is the same as it was over a hundred years ago. Tranquility is easily found. There is no car access in the town of Yelapa; it is filled to the brim with nature. Banderas Bay, as you know, is the largest bay in Mexico and is the second largest in North America.

It is home to almost every species of marine life. An exception is the shark. It is considered one of the deepest bays in the world with recorded depths of over two kilometers and many of them are still unexplored even today.

The mountains and forests offer a wide variety of flowering tropical plants, herbs, fruit and trees, a real treat for nature lovers. Animal life is very plentiful.

The Lagunita Hotel has been based on tourism for three generations, and the people are genuinely friendly, lofty and surprising. Even Cortes in 1524 was taken with the locals. The indigenous people asked Cortez to have his army retreat from their land, stating that they were not a warlike people, and that they only wanted peaceful relations. Cortez was courted in such a way that when he returned, a wonderful church was built, which can still be found in our town of El Tuito, Jalisco, Mexico. Times have not changed much since then--the Yelapans will also court you in the same way!
